Austria has had a rich history, and to go along with this, it has issued a rich diversity of coins, including many gold coin denominations. One of the most popular Austrian gold coins, the Austrian Gold 1 Ducat coin, was first minted by Austria at the start of the sixteenth century, around 1612.
Not legal tender, Ducats have been minted continuously and are popular for collection purposes.The last regular issue date was in 1914; therefore, all ducats that are dated 1915 are restrikes. Between 1920 and 1936, 996,721 of these restrikes were issued. The Austrian Mint is still producing these gold one Ducat restrikes today.
